The sustainability success story of 1900 Sixteenth Street, a 17-story mixed-use tower in Denver, Colorado, is the result of dedication, commitment and collaboration at all building stages – from design to lease-up. After receiving LEED-CS Gold certification, the building mandated that all tenants, including retail tenants, achieve LEED-CI certification. After the building was over 80% occupied, GBS consulted with the project team to achieve LEED-EB: O&M Platinum certification. At this point in time, this is the only office building in the world to achieve all three LEED distinctions. Although construction was completed during one of the United States’ most difficult economic periods – 2009 – ownership never wavered in the pursuit of the highest marks. Tenants were overwhelmingly supportive of building-wide green programs such as composting, alternative transportation initiatives, green cleaning, lighting controls, and sustainable purchasing. Additionally, the building’s high Energy Star Rating of 95 was maintained by implementing cutting-edge error detection and diagnostics.
