The newly constructed Women’s Health Center of Southern Oregon, a 28,000 square foot medical office building, is located in Grants Pass, Oregon adjacent to the Three Rivers Community Hospital campus. The project is a partnership between a collection of local physicians and Asante, the largest medical provider in the region. TVA Architects worked with a skilled team of designers to ensure the project provides a healing environment for patients that is high performing, sustainable and enduring. A number of sustainable strategies and systems are envisioned to increase building performance including efficient mechanical systems, careful attention to bringing natural light into the building, and energy and water efficient lights and fixtures. The project is anticipated to achieve a minimum of LEED Silver certification.

The integrated design process involved early collaboration between the project team (including the architect, owner, tenants, medical planner, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineers, landscape architect, and green building consultant) to outline sustainable goals and embed them in the scope of work from the outset of the project. Project goals considered the whole site as well as focusing on the building’s energy and water performance and maintenance and occupant satisfaction. The site design takes advantage of open space for outdoor amenities and stormwater management. For example, the swales used to collect storm water connect to a larger rain garden and double as amenity area for the Women’s Health Center staff through an adjacent seating area, and through a curving pathway that allows for seating and viewpoints. The building is designed to provide a seamless integration from outdoors to inside, and also makes use of a wide array of local materials. The interiors have been carefully selected to be low e provide a pleasing environment
