GBS is providing sustainability consulting for the Moana Surfrider, a resort and spa currently applying for LEED-EB: O&M certification. The resort consists of three connected buildings comprising 605,465 sf, with the original hotel, affectionately known as “The First Lady of Waikiki,” first opening its doors in 1901. GBS’ assessment included recommendations for sustainability upgrades to help ensure a successful certification. GBS also conducted comprehensive assessments for the landmark Sheraton Waikiki (1.4 M sf) and Royal Hawaiian (101,500 sf) hotels to determine the feasibility of achieving LEED-EB: O&M. These assessments overviewed the existing performance of the hotels in relation to LEED credit requirements and determined several key areas that would ensure certification. GBS provided LEED scorecards for the hotels and delivered a specific list of actions to initiate “next steps” to certification.
